Tips to Minimize Your Wait Time

Please consider visiting DMV during off-peak times. Our off-peak times are typically mid-week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Our peak periods include Mondays and Fridays, the first and last days of each month, the day before and after a State Holiday and school vacation weeks.

  • If you have the ability to visit our branches mid-week (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday), your average wait time is regularly less than it is on either Monday or Friday. When possible, consider doing transactions by mail, online, or at a AAA branch office (for members only).
  • Many DMV transactions can now be processed using our online services. The easiest way to avoid waiting at DMV branches is to first check to see if you can complete your transaction online. You will always be first in line and there is no waiting to be served.
  • To further reduce your wait times, please utilize our document checklists prior to visiting DMV branches. Completing all required forms prior to coming to DMV streamlines the transaction process and helps the DMV serve you in a more efficient and timely manner.

Please be aware that if you visit the DMV during our peak periods, your average wait is usually longer and that you should plan accordingly. DMV is continuously working to improve your customer service experience and to decrease your wait times for service at our branches.

The DMV welcomes your feedback and questions so that we can better serve you.
