Address Change
- Walkin: Done at any DMV branch location. Bring your current registration card, Rhode Island drivers' license, and proof of insurance.
- By Mail: Complete the Application for Registration, send it with a check or money order to the Division of Motor Vehicles Attn: Update Registration, 600 New London Avenue, Cranston, RI 02920. Costs are listed in the DMV Fee Table.
- The Application for Registration must be signed by the registered owner and notarized.
Address Change (no fee): Use the Change of Address form. Mail the form to the Division of Motor Vehicles Attn: Address Change, 600 New London Avenue, Cranston RI 02920. You will not receive an updated registration certificate.
Name Change
- A name change requires the title for vehicles that are 2001 and newer. If there is a loan on the vehicle, the bank must release the title or a copy of the front of the title to process the name change. You must change the name on your license,
by visiting a Social Security Office, prior to changing the name on your registration and title. This process is done in batch with a 24 hr. turn around time frame.
- The Application for Registration must be signed by the registered owner and notarized.
