VIN Check

If you have purchased a vehicle with a title from another state, or if you have a car that was previously registered in another state, you must have the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on your paperwork checked against the actual VIN on your vehicle to make sure the two numbers match. This applies only to vehicles ten (10) years old or newer.

This can be done at your local police department. Some police departments require you to make an appointment. Click here for a list of Rhode Island police department addresses and phone numbers.
