  • You must have one proof of residency from this list.
  • Insurance is mandatory in Rhode Island. Your insurance company must be licensed to do business in Rhode Island and you must bring proof of insurance (your insurance card or policy) to the DMV.
  • You will need to have a VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) check performed by your local police department.
  • Fill out a TR-1 application pdf completely. With your RI driver's license, the DMV clerks can notarize your signature.
  • Fill out a Tax Exempt card. (Form T-333-1) pdf
  • You will be charged a registration fee and title fee. Once the fee is paid you will be given a registration certificate, registration stickers and new plates.
