Please be advised that the Division of Motor Vehicles requires you to present your original, unlaminated Social Security card for all NEW license and ID card transactions. We will no longer require the presentation of a Social Security card for renewals of RI operator or CDL licenses or RI Identification Cards. In addition, anyone who was denied renewal based on a lack of SS card since 8/1/07 may apply for renewal even if the ID or license has expired.
If you do not have your Social Security card, please contact the Social Security Administration or go to their website at www.ssa.gov
The Division of Motor Vehicles in conjunction with the New England Organ Donor Bank allows you to register to be an organ donor when you renew or obtain a new license. Simply fill out the form and carry the Uniform Organ Donor card in your wallet. Be certain that your family is aware that you wish to be an organ donor. For more information, contact the New England Organ Donor Bank directly.
If you are renewing your license and you will be 18 years old by the next election and a US Citizen, you can register to vote at the DMV's License section.
If you are between the ages of 18 - 25 and male, you must register for Selective Service. At the time your photo is taken, the DMV clerk will ask you a question regarding Selective Service in order to register you.
