Salvage

A salvage vehicle is a vehicle that has been classified as a total loss by an insurance company and is now in the process of being repaired by a Rhode Island salvage rebuilder.

In order to make an appointment for a salvage vehicle inspection you must appear in person at the Enforcement section of the Division of Motor Vehicles, with all the documentation listed below:

 



  • Photos of the vehicle - front/both sides/back - prior to repairs
  • Properly assigned Salvage Title
  • Bill of sale for salvage vehicle
  • All original receipts for parts used to repair vehicle (NO copies)
  • Orignal work order for labor to repair vehicle (NO copies)
  • Insurance company appraisal report
  • Original salvage repairers certificate (Original required per RIGL 31-46)
  • Certified check or money order for $56.50
  • Positive identification for the person applying for the appointment
  • Properly completed and signed application
  • Copy of the salvage title - front AND back
  • ANY CANCELLATION OF APPOINTMENTS MUST BE DONE IN PERSON OR BY FAX (462-5789) WITH A MINIMUM OF 24 HOURS NOTICE

 

You must have all of the items listed above in order to make an appointment. When the appointment is requested and the paperwork presented to the Enforcement section, the investigator will review all the paperwork presented. If the paperwork does not meet the requirements for a salvage appointment, no appointment will be made.

If the vehicle is not fully repaired or restored based on the information gleaned from the person making the appointment, no appointment will be made.

All cancellations must be done in person or by fax (401)-462-5789 at least 24 hours in advance.
